How do I enroll a medication into automatic refills?

You can enroll eligible medications to receive refills automatically using any of the following options:

  • Login to enroll eligible medications at Express-Scripts.com/TRICARE. There are three ways to enroll medications:
    1. Automatic refills on the home page: Click “Manage automatic refills.” Complete the Automatic Refills page.
    2. Automatic Refills page: Select “Automatic Refills” from the menu under “Prescriptions” to view all eligible prescriptions. Simply click “Start Automatic Refills” beside prescriptions you want to enroll.
    3. During checkout in My Cart: When placing an order, you will see the option to check the automatic refill box beside eligible prescriptions.
  • Call Express Scripts at 877.363.1303 to speak with a Patient Care Advocate.
Are all of my medications eligible to be automatically refilled?

A prescription is eligible for automatic refills if it is dispensed by TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery and if it is a long-term/maintenance medication. Some medications do not qualify for automatic refills. Examples include controlled substances, specialty medications or medications intended to be used on a short-term basis, like allergy or pain medications.

What happens when my prescription runs out of refills?

When an automatic refill enrolled prescription runs out of refills, Express Scripts will contact you with a call or email to stay in the program. If you choose to renew and continue in the program, Express Scripts will contact your prescribing doctor for an updated prescription. If the doctor approves the continued use of the medication, Express Scripts will resume automatic refills.

How do I provide consent to renew my medication and continue in the Automatic Refill program?

You can provide consent to renew your prescription when the last refill of your medication enrolled in the Automatic Refill program ships or when the prescription expires. Express Scripts will contact you with a call or email to get your consent to stay in the program. You can provide consent by visiting Express-Scripts.com/TRICARE after your last refill has shipped or by calling a Patient Care Advocate.

There are two steps to renew a prescription & continue automatic refills at Express-Scripts.com/TRICARE:

  1. On the Automatic Refills page, select “Renew & Continue auto refill” from the “Available action” menu, or other action as you wish.
  2. Confirm your choice and Express Scripts will contact your doctor on your behalf.
How will I know when my next automatic refill is coming?

Express Scripts will notify you in advance of every automatic refill with a call or email that we are getting ready to process the next fill. This will allow enough time for you to change the processing date or cancel the prescription if it is not needed.

Can I stop automatic refills anytime?

Yes. Automatic refills can be turned off anytime by visiting Express-Scripts.com/TRICARE or when speaking with an Express Scripts Patient Care Advocate.

There are two ways to remove medications at Express-Scripts.com/TRICARE:

  1. On the Automatic Refills section on the home page, select “Stop automatic refills” beside the prescriptions you wish to remove, or
  2. On the Automatic Refills page, select “Stop automatic refills” beside the prescriptions you wish to remove.
